Difficulty with TSI math exemption for nursing school?

Published

I applied to the UT nursing school at Houston for Spring 2011 and everything seems to be in order except my TSI exempt status.

On my UTlink, which is a prospective student system that tracks your application status, it shows "TSI exempt - Not Received"....I called the school today and they said that the math score for the TSI is not on my transcript, only the reading and writing is. The lady I spoke with told me they will review my transcript and let me know whether I am exempt or not. If I am not exempt, they said I will probably have to take college algebra this coming Fall.

I was just wondering, has anyone else had this happen to them? How did you handle it?

(I was told by fellow students that there is such as a thing a math placement test I can take to satisfy the math TSI and I won't need to take college algebra. Is this true? I do not want to risk getting placed in a remedial math class if I do poorly....I have not taken math in a long time.)

You could brush up and take the CLEP instead. (if your school will accept that as a substition)
