I'm an FNP student in Minneapolis, MN in an online program. My school recently changed from having students set up their own clinical placements and instead are supposedly managing that process with clinical placement staff. In discussion with other students it seems that very few students got clinical placement. I have secured my own clinical placements for my next term but an concerned that I will not be able to graduate on time because my school doesn't notify me with enough time for me to find my own clinical placement. Being in the Twin Cities makes it quite difficult to find clinical placement as each health company has their own clinical placement people who, in my experience, are difficult to work with. I work for one of the major health systems and was notified by our clinical placement coordinator that if I spoke with providers myself that I would be prevented from getting clinical placement with any provider that worked in our health system. Anybody that has completed a program in the Twin Cities have any suggestions for getting clinical placement? I need to figure out placement for my peds clinical which would be from the end of July through the beginning of October and for my lifespan clinical from October through December.

Turn over every possible stone, including consideration of possibly finding a different employer who is willing to actually help with facilitating placements instead of playing playground bully games with the schools. I know someone who did exactly that when his/her employer acted like a control freak and made it difficult for employees to secure advanced clinical placements within their system which controlled a large region. Simply got a job with an employer (major competitor, actually) who was more than happy to help. ??♀️
