Different agencies submitting you for the same job

Hello,

I am new to traveling. I plan to travel to CA (San Diego) in the next 4-5 weeks. I have been talking to Medstaff and the recruiter had an open position she wanted to submit me for. She told me to make sure if I was working with another agency, to not have them submit me for the same opening. She made it seem as though it was frowned upon by the hospital. Is this true?

Does the hospital look at it negatively if you are working with more than one company?

Thanks for your help!

PS Forgive me in advance, but I will probably be asking A LOT more questions as they come about.

Its not that it is frowned upon, it just isnt possible. If thre is already a contract out for you, another agency cant submit another. So, hospital could care less which or how many agencies you work for but which recruiter who actually places you in a position is very important to the recruiters.

Truth is, when you are liking one recruiter more than another, you give the one you like the first bid at the contracts you really like. The way to play the game, in my eyes anyway, is to have a primary recruiter and then let others look as well. So, lets say you really want to go to CA. You let the primary recruiter know first, then let them have a few days to place your contract with the best fit jobs they can find. A little later, you let the secondary recruiters know about your plans........gong to CA if I can, but will go to here, there, maybe this place too. You start getting interview calls and take the job you like most (for whatever your motivation is........location, pay, the hospital you like more, the one offering the shift you want to work, whatever).

They don't care if you work for more than one company. I've heard different things but it's not a good idea to be submitted to the same job by more than one company. There are people who say the hospital won't even look at you if your submitted by more than one company for the same job.

I was under the understanding that it is not possible to be submitted twice by different companies, that it doesnt happen. Maybe I'm wrong. IDK.

Look at it this way - the hospitals want to hire a traveler with the minimum of hassles. If you are submitted by more than one agency, there is the potential for "issues" as to which agency has the right to get paid for your contract (the first submission, or the one the traveler prefers? Or perhaps the hospital has a long standing affiliation with one of the agencies) so it is very likely that in the interest of expediency the hospital will toss your submission in the reject pile and go on to the nurse with no difficulties. Since most hospitals are currently receiving 50-100 submissions within days of posting a contract, you don't want to do anything that would cause them to reject your application.

All of the above makes sense to me. Thanks guys and gals. I just didn't know if the recruiter was trying to get me not to sign up with another company. Like I said, this is new so I'm learning. I have 1 1/2 years experience, so it seems its hard to get my foot in the door right now. I'd submitted my info to 2 companys. I tried one in CA, but they basically said I HAVE to have 2 years experience. So....we'll see.
