Difference in TEAS and PAX RN?

Nursing Students General Students

Are these two the same entrance exam for all Nursing programs? And why do they have different names? Ive been wondering that for a while:cool:

These exams may not be the exact same exams but they are one of the many hight stakes exams nursing programs use. I find the difference is in the 1. amount and type of information being tested on 2. the degree of difficulty. Of all the exams I am familiar with ex. NET, HOBBIT, TEAS; i must say the NET is the easiest because you are being tested on basic math, reading comprehension and rate as well as learning styles and your ability to work with others. The TEAS from what I have seen is the most difficult because it tests on all of your nursing pre-req's at the college level: biology, chemistry, physics, college algebra, reading comprehension, anatomy & physiology etc.

Thank you! I took the Pax-RN last month

Specializes in CVICU, CCU, MICU.

I found the PAX to be harder than the TEAS. They are both based on science, math, and English but I found the TEAS to be more like the study guide than the PAX. They are two separate tests. The PAX is from the NLN and the TEAS is from ATI.

hmm I took the teas recently, and i have to take the PAX rn in the fall. I thought the TEAS was alright, certinally no walk in the park but I am not pulling my hair out. Any insight on the Pax RN compared to the TEAS, which is easier? Any difference in the material covered? Does the Pax Rn cover more vocab on the english section than the teas etc?

I honestly do not think is fair that students that are going for their ADN first (like me) should be tested on Chemistry, Physics, and Biology (general). We are not required to take those college courses for our Associate's degree.

Every community college in my state requires us to take Chemistry and general biology plus anatomy & physiology and usually Microbiology as well before applying. Also, the physics portion is probably very light because I have taken both tests and I did great without any physics knowledge.

In my state for ADN prerequisites, the only sciences you need is A&P l and ll and Microbiology. That is it.

Yes, but most colleges that offer those classes require prereqs to take them. While the ADN program might just be asking for say, Microbiology, I couldn't take that course without taking General Bio amd Chem first.
