Targin is a slow release combination of Oxycodone and Naloxone that lasts approximately 12 hours so is usually given BD for a background of analgesia. Note that Targin has Naloxone, an opiate reversal agent, in it. At first glance, this seems counter-productive, however this reduces the side effects of the Oxycodone, mostly GI related such as constipation. I work with a lot of chronic pain patients and Targin is now used a lot more than OxyContin (slow release Oxycodone alone) for that reason. Endone is an immediate release Oxycodone used for acute, breakthrough pain and therefore is often given PRN along with BD Targin. Hope that helps.
