Did You Work While Pregnant?

Did you work when you were pregnant? If you don't/didn't did your significant other make you feel bad about it? I'm pregnant with our second son & can't work. I have epilepsy, bipolar & borderline personality disorder. While I'm pregnant I'm sick 98% of the time & my sleep schedule is crap. If I was working I would probably have a seizure or I would fall into a depression or mania. That or I would be calling in all the time because I didn't get enough sleep or I'm extremely sick.

My husband makes me feel bad that I don't work. He's not making much money & it just adds to the stress. He asks why I can't work when I pregnant like other women. My mom worked when she was pregnant with my brother & super sick all the time.

Anyone else go through this or is it just me?

I've had 5 children (4 living) and I've never worked while pregnant with any of them. I also stayed home for the first year with all of them.

Granted, my husband was active duty Army during all of that, so financially, we were fine. My husband was very supportive of me staying home and actually preferred me staying home with them for the first year.

As as far as your situation, I see it as a safety issue, for you and your baby. I understand he's worried about finances, but in the scheme of things, it might be helpful for him to step back and weigh out the value of a tight budget with a healthy wife and child, or a tight budget and an ill wife and possibly child. Cause, either way, that extra cash won't be flowing if you're too sick to work.

Congratulations on the baby though!!

Thank you! I know it's tough & stressful for him. He was working in the oil field before this & was making good money. But he had to quit because I was too mentally unstable for him to be gone that long. He took a massive pay cut & it does suck. But I don't want to live paycheck to paycheck for the rest of our lives. I know after my second child is at least 1 I will go back to school.

Oh, man. Oil does make good money. One of my husband's good friends worked on an oil rig for a while and he made BANK. He had to stop for his family as well. They had a rough transition. His wife ended up getting her LPN to help make ends meet. Im sure you'll be happy to know they bounced back though!

I wish you luck, you're in a tough spot. Best advice I can give is be gentle with each other. You both have a lot going on and you both need patience and understanding. You'lol make it through

Yeah, my husband's best friend is in the oil field. I know he misses that work but it just doesn't work for us.

I just get stressed because I know even if I worked as an LVN & didn't go back to

school we could have a decent living. Thank you so much!

I did but my hospital pulled me from bedside duty because they needed me more as a ward clerk so it was nice to sit more than be on my feet.

I have faith that things will work out in time. Good luck.

When I was pregnant with my first I was working at a detention center. I called out so much & my boss didn't care. I'm half sad I left because I will never have a boss as awesome as him again.

This would be a great thing to look into. You'dbe able to bring in some income, but be able to sit and be comfortable. I wonder if you could get something like this?

I don't know if they would hire me as a clerk because I'm an LVN. But I would love to do it!

I did. I worked as a nurse aide while pregnant with my first child, and that was tough.

I ended up leaving work earlier than I had planned; I just couldn't do it anymore.

I also worked with my second pregnancy, but I was a charge nurse in an adult

psych unit from 11pm-7am. I basically sat on my butt all night and charted;

the patients mostly slept. So that was much easier and I was able to work up

until my son was born, pretty much.
