I never thought I'd have to write this post, but I sadly did not pass my AANP exam this month. I had a 4.0 in school and attended Fitzgerald review course and thought I'd have no trouble.
I got my score report and scored a 472, does anyone know what this equates to in how many questions I missed?
After spending some time ugly crying, I sat down and took a look at areas in which I needed to improve upon and why I may not have passed and I've made a plan, but I am looking for any and all help hints or tips anyone may have.
Thank you in advance for reading!

So sorry to hear you did not pass. Everyone learns at different paces and in different ways. I have read in various places that the exams questions are weighted, so each question does not get allocated the same number of points another question does. Also, I have seen 500/800 floating around the internet and for some reason i remember seeing that in an old Fitzgerald print out.
1. For me, I like visual so I did the FHEA/Fitzgerald online review at my own pace, working through the workbook that came along with it. This took me about 2-3 weeks (I started this at first at the end of my program since we were required to take a predictor, but then dropped it after ch16, then picked it back up again 2 weeks after graduating)
2. After making my own notes in the workbook and finishing the recorded lectures I started practicing on review questions from the Leik review book. I did all the questions in the back (about 630) throughout a little under 2 weeks.
3. I took my second predictor after the Leik book (for AGNP), the one that comes with the FHEA/Fitzgerald review (scored in the low 80's); then I moved onto doing more questions.
4. My last resource was the FHEA/Fitzgerald NP Cert Exam and Practice Prep book (this book is for either FNP or AGNP). I have read online reviews on Amazon that says the 4th ed is similar to the 5th, but I wanted the new one so I got that. The code inside the book gives you access to do the questions that are in the book through the DavisPlus website. You can customize the number of questions you want to do, what system/chapter, or even sub-systems like STI, Male GU, Female GU all in one sitting. Only thing is, this book doesn't have rationales printed for you right there with the answer, so you have to look at the actual chapter and dig a little. I did about 500-700 questions? I didn't really count. Total in the book is like 2,000.
I did end up taking another predictor after this with APEA (who my school used for our final predictor after our course) and scored in the high 60's. This scared me. After scoring 70-80's a 66?! But I didn't push my test date back. I just zeroed in on the weak spots of that test. Took more questions from the FHEA/Fitzgerald Cert Review.
5. Finally, I took the AANP practice test with a score in the high 70's. The last few days leading up to my exam I stopped all the questions and reviewed. wrote out from what i knew and/or had to look up the common problems I was noticing throughout all my questioning and/or reivew books by system. I didn't get through it all in the last few days but it helped me see what i was forgetting and got me to memorize first line antibiotics, classic presentation, etc I would start with your weakest system/area and go from there.
I hope this helps and wish you luck. Maybe all you needed was a bit more organization in your studies, or focus on weak areas.

I took the PSI AANP Family 75 question practice test ($50) and got a 66%.
On the APEA Predictor test I got 69%.
The passing score is 500/800 for AANP Family. This comes out to 62.5%... So does that mean if I consistently score above 62.5% I will be in OK shape for the test??
Not sure if I should be rescheduling my test date? I am so worried!

Hey! I know how devastating it is. I failed mine today after nonstop studying. This weekend I thought about postponing it and I should have.
Anyway...have you retaken it? If so and you passed, I'd like to hear what worked for you!
Wishing you the best â¤ï¸

I know this is an older post, but I hope my post can help. I failed the adult/gerontology AANP boards on August 30th 2017. I was in such a hurry to get it over with, I took the exam when I was not ready. I was devastated, cried a lot, and wanted to give up. Then I started back at square one. I purchased Hollier's online review and Liek's book. I would listen to Hollier's lecture on a topic, then read Liek's review of the topic. I also purchased two APEA indicator exams. After Hollier's review I took one exam and received a 66%. I kept studying and 2 days before my boards, I took the other exam and scored a 71%. I studied for 3.5 weeks. I passed the exam yesterday. Hollier's review course is excellent with a 99% pass rate. Nothing against Fitzgerald, but she did not work for me, and I had difficulty learning from her. I am a crap test taker, so if I can pass anyone can. I hope this post can help a fellow NP candidate.

You're not alone! I failed the FNP exam on 8/14. I immediately did my 15 CEs and reapplied. I had my new authorization to test on 8/28 and tested 9/2/17. I passed! I did Barkley the first time through school. After I failed, I did Hollier and really enjoyed her review!

Hi. Dust yourself off and go bad again. I felt the same way when I did not passed the first time. I came across this site and the posting from other student help me. The resources I was using at the tiime was not enough. I did APEA. Like it but do not cover the content of the exams. Leikes is the way to go. After I took the exam in Oct 2017 and failed. I did the predictor exam and all the question in the mail book and still failed along with 50 question from exam edge. Exam edge I don't find helpful. I stop using it. Went back to me in and copy out of Leikes system by system and disease , treatment, diagnosis, and treatment. This took me seven days, doing 8-14 hour day of writing. Then I read my notes so it would be more clear to me. After doing that I thought I understood the content more clearly. Then I find on this site in other student notes. The NP Mastery and nap Prep. So I purchase the too and went over NP Mastery once reading the rational to get clear understanding. Then I turn to NP prep, that is more challenging and went over it twice. I listen to an old APEA c.f. that was given to me from 2015. Same idea but something's were not current. Say this to say that. You must get the content down. Before doing questions. It is not like the nclex.you must know the content. Once you know the content you will be able to answer questions how ever they set it on the test. I find Lieks, np prep and np mastery very helpful. Not Exam edge. I went back a month after and passed aanp with 520. I am thankful. Because i spend months studying with other resources that was unsuccessful. I would study for 8-16 hours of days, before these resources. I found them in one week study and went back and was successful. Hope this help someone. This site help me greatly.

NUrse_721 while your calculation of 500/800 is correct, it is not the same for the actual test results therefore it cannot be translated to a 62.5%. The test scores are "scaled scores": About Scaled Scores - AANPCP

I am graduating next week and reviewing Fitzgerald, I did the post-test 75 questions yesterday, did not do well under 60%, Seems so hard and discouraging. But I have not even applied yet, so I know I have a long way to go.

If anyone read this thread in 2024. Please study with Sarah's NP review. Personally, I think other materials are old and outdated. Do crash course and Qbank (1000 questions). You will pass the test

I had used APEA (Hollier) in 2009 and it was great and passed the exam. I am having to retest since I have not been in direct patient care so signed up for the course again. But this time there are new instructors and it is a hot mess. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Printed materials had critical typos, lecturers did not seem as knowledgeable, on-line review lectures also had errors. WAY too much money and a big let down. Keeping my fingers crossed! Going to check out Sarah's as recommended above!
