I currently work at a small community hospital on an adult acute care unit. This past Monday, I was interviewed for a NICU position at the same hospital. This position was only offered to internal employees. It went well, I'm what they're looking for in an applicant and showed my passion for working with infants. (A year and a half ago, I briefly worked at a children's hospital; had to quit because my family moved too far from the hospital).
They told me I would hear from them by the end of the week. It's now Friday night and I haven't heard anything. Does this mean I didn't get the job?

It doesn't mean anything. It could mean the HR lady was out sick today or had a busy day or (like my Friday) got called this morning to say "did anyone tell you there's a meeting this afternoon about this?"
You did not get the job until HR has called you with a verbal offer and followed up with a written offer.
Thank you! That's reassuring. I've been freaking out about it, guess I'm over thinking things.
