Hi... Just curious. Has anyone tried L&D and not liked it. And if so, why?

Thanks...

:chuckle these reasons to hate L&D are hysterical!

No, not everyone is cut out to spend 12 hours a day in the lady parts of a total stranger!

but, I'll stay there :loveya:...to avoid the spit from COPD patients, the crying of pediatrics that dont understand why you are hurting them, and the 4,000 meds of the med/surg floors!! I'm wimp, I guess!

Isn't it great that we all don't like the same areas in nursing???

with you keeping a copy of your charting or some very good notes about it,

Be VERY cautious about ever, ever keeping a copy of your charting or keeping extra notes!!! Most attorneys will ask you at deposition if you have any notes or copies pertaining to the case!

If you say no... and really do... you are committing purjury!

If you say yes...they will leap on them, as it is a big "red flag" that something went wrong with that patient!!!

Suggest, instead, you chart your heart out and use your hospital's incident reporting systems ad nauseaum. (when I log onto my hospital's incident reporting system, a pop-up comes up saying, "Oh, YOU again"! hehehe)

Also, use and chart that you are using the Chain of Command!

IF you need more than that to defend your practice, you are working on the wrong unit! Every unit should be following ACOG/AWHONN standards on staffing, charting, etc. IF not, get outta there!

How could you NOT want to be one of the 1st ten people this new little person will see in all his/her life?? Because of this, I greet ALL of my babies with a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY SUNSHINE!!!" greeting in the delivery room!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this job! :heartbeat And I will take it with it's cons. Thank goodness there are more pros and the cons are few and far between! :D
