Dialysis Nursing at Davita

I just applied for a Dialysis position at Davita. I've been looking for a job for the past month and as a graduate nurse in Central Florida this has been very hard despite all of the nursing jobs out there. After reading about dialysis nursing I thought it would be a great match. I don't mind working long hours as I have no kids (just a husband that can feed himself ;)), I don't mind being on my feet all day, and I don't care to work in a fast paced environment. That has been a lot of cons that I have read. But even after reading that i'm still questioning if DaVita would be a good option for a new grad? I don't want to choose a job just because i'm DESPERATE for one, I want to choose it because I am truly going to enjoy it. Does anyone have any different opinions about Davita or Dialysis nursing?

Training at Davita is not the best but they are a good group to work for, Fresenius has the best training, but be prepared for long hours on your feet for both

Please believe me, fast paced is an understatement. You will run your patootie off!

You either love or hate dialysis nursing, there is no grey area. It can be extremely rewarding but it is a busy job with a lot of responsibility.

Have you seen if you can shadow a RN in a close by facility?

The worst thing that can happen is you learn some things, gain job experience, gain a resume builder, and make some money, but not necessarily like what you are doing. You then work on finding a new job.

Its not like you have to work there forever if you hate it. Do a good job, learn some things, pay your bills, build your resume. Find a new job if you hate it.

I have read lots of negative things about Davita on this site (and quite a few others). The only explanation I can come up with is your experience will really depend on your teammates. I have worked as an LPN for Davita for almost 3 years and I can honestly say the great days vastly outnumber the bad days. Our facility turnover rate is extremely low. Since I've been there we've lost one RN and one tech, both were due to them moving out of state. I am currently in school for my RN (done in April, yay!) and scheduled to replace a retiring RN at our facility. My training lasted approximately 3 months and I felt well-prepared to be "on my own", though with our facility we work as a team and no one is left to drown. I can't speak for RN salary, but mine compares favorably to other LPNs working at nursing homes. Benefits are great and I feel as though I get plenty of PTO. It is a VERY fast paced job, but it is also extremely rewarding, getting to know your patients and help them live a healthier life. Good luck and if there's anything else you want to know, feel free to message me!

I love Davita! and I couldn't agree more

Let me know if you are still looking for a job with Davita and where abouts in Florida you are located. I may be able to put you in touch with someone. I do not work there, but I do know that many nurses do not have what it takes to work there. I hear stories every day. Not that they are bad nurses, it's just that Davita expects a lot out of you for pay that is not very competitive. But, like others said, it's what you want out of it. You never work Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Years. You only work 3 Sundays out of the year. There's a lot to like. Anyway...let me know.
