Dialysis to other areas

Published

Hello all,

I am a recent graduate, and of course as we all know it's tough to find a job. I have an interview with a Dialysis center, and while it's not my first choice, it's a paycheck. My ideal situation would be in a hospital in Med-Surg where I could gain some experience, and ultimately transition to ICU.

Is starting off there going to hinder my future goals, or would it actually help if I wanted to apply to a med-surg or ICU unit? Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, dialysis can transition well to other areas.

There are numerous opportunities for new grads into dialysis these days as, to be blunt...you are cheap, naiive labor for the dialysis corporations. And, there are fewer and fewer veterans willing to put up with the snowballing nonsense in the for-profit arena.

One company even has a nifty little program called "___ University" or some such to actively draw from the gigantic pool of new grads looking for an "any job."

Used to be you didn't get your foot in the door without at least a year's experience in Med Surg or greater.

Good luck, dialysis nursing can be very cool if you find the right honey-hole/sweet spot to work in.

Guttercat,

I did numerous searches but couldn't find an answer. I don't know why I didn't bother to search the dialysis forum lol. Thanks for the info!
