Hi all,
I wanted to flag this topic up again as I think it's a really important one. I'm currently trying to find a way of Registering with the board in Victoria. Their register for Developmental Disability nursing is now closed and I've searched the web a zillion times over to try and find any advertised nurse jobs to no avail. Does anyone have any information that could point me in the right direction? I know this branch of nursing is/was sometimes referred to as Intellectual Disability or mental retardation nursing (gulp - very old fashioned description!)
It would be very much appreciated.
How's it for registering in NSW? Do they accept the qualification okay or do they limit the scope of practice? I've looked as far as I can at this and it seems that in NSW you register your branch of nursing and end up categorised as Registered Nurse - does this mean that employers will take you based on what they feel your competency for the job role is?
I am confused and perplexed and currently on my way to bang my head against the hardest wall in the house. I might then have a beer!
As said above ANY info would be brrrrilliant!!
Thanks in advance
Darren

Check with the Nurses Board. I do know that alot of disability work has been taken over by Cert III Health and Community Services - Disability Support Workers. Meds are given by prepackaged Webster packs signed out by the staff.
I'd be interested to see what you find out...
