Our unit is looking to update, actually, establish some guidelines for developmental care. Do your units have specific policies? I have researched a bit on my own: Do any of your units use the DVDs from neonataldevelopmentalcare.com? And how do you feel about NIDCAP certification? Do they have any online education available to your knowledge? We are looking for evidence based practice of course, so any articles you have would be great.

It would be a great investment for your unit to send a few of your most developmentally supportive nurses to the annual Contemporary Forums Conference on Developmental Care. Also, Children's Medical Ventures, a company that sells developmental products, has on its web site a survey your unit can use to determine how developmental your unit is at present and it gives you good guidelines of what a great developmental unit looks like.

NANN actually has a developmental Care Specialist Certification. They have a book as well as modules (27 of them) in order to prepare for the test. You can find out more about it on the website- here is a link: http://www.association-office.com/NANN/etools/products/testproducts.cfm?product_class=DCS
