Developing resource for patient

Published

Hello all!

I'm a UNE student working at a Primary Care Network in Alberta. I'm currently developing a resource for patients that compares the cost of eating healthy with the cost of eating fast food. Obviously my aim is to show them you can eat healthy even on a budget. I want it to look something like this:

http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?post=what_20_will_buy_at_the_drivethru_and_at_the_supermarket

I feel if I can take photos of what $20 it provides a storng visual for the patient and reinforces the message. Thats where I run into a problem though, where would be a good idea to take these photos? I don't want to actualy buy the food myself as I'm trying to do several comparisons and would have a hard time eating all that food. I had thought about contacting different managers of grocery stores around my area and asking their perimission to photograph some of their food, but I'm not sure how kosher that idea is, do you think they would mind?

I don't want to use the photos from the website as the currency is American and they are not my photos (Don't want to steal).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this? Or maybe any ideas on how a should lay out and develop the document?

Thanks! :D

I don't think it's a bad idea to call the grocery or produce manager of the supermarket closest to your home or work and ask them the question. What's the worst that happens? They say "no". It would be even better if you went in person and asked because then they have a face with the name. I find Save-On Foods to be pretty good about those kinds of requests. They're smaller stores, generally, and the managers of the various departments are quite involved in their neighbourhoods. If that doesn't work maybe you could ask a couple of freinds to split the cost and then split the food with you. That way you wouldn't be stuck with a lot of produce that you couldn't eat before it spoils. Good luck with your project... it's a very worthy one.
