Hi All!

I finally got my job offer and my official wage amount which is more than I expected for the area I live. Today, I received my email with all the necessary paperwork to fill out and bring in. Thursday I have my Physical and Drug Screen. I was curious on what exactly is going to happen during the Physical (this is for a Unit Clerk position) and if this is something you usually get paid for during the time you are there because it sounds like it will be about 2 hours or so with doing the Physical, drug screen, and HR department? I am also getting my picture taken for the badge. I am so excited for this even if it is just a PRN position at the moment and all I can do is hope they have a full-time/part-time with guaranteed hours open up. I want to be able to quit my current at home Transcription job and start working at the hospital full-time. Thank you all for your help. I hope to become a great unit clerk and not the kind nurses do not like :)

I've never been paid for an employee health screening much like you are not paid for an interview. Unless it is considered a component of orientation, I wouldn't expect to be paid. Usually you re given. Basic medical history form to fill out, screening questions such as allergies, any medical conditions that could prevent you from fulfilling your job duties (notwithstanding if you self-identified as needing reasonable accommodation for a protected condition under the ADA). As a Unit clerk you I'll be exposed to patients so labs will be drawn to screen for measles, rubella, chicken possibly mumps. Two step PPD to screen for,TB exposure. Most facilities offer Hepatitis B vaccine or tigers to all employees. If there is any chance you will be in an ER, pediatric or newborn setting they may require a pertussis vaccine (TDaP). Most do urine drug screens but don't ask about medications unless it comes back as potentially positive, then you will hear from the medical review officer regarding any Rx meds. Some facilities require all employees who work in patient care areas from nursing to maintenance to undergo fit testing for the specialized masks in case a patient has confirmed or suspected TB.

Good luck on your new job!
