Details, learn to be type A?

I'm a 3rd yr nursing student and continually get hung up by the small things. I often forget small, inconsequential things (directions, labeling things a certain way). I know I need to remedy this for my career. Any of you have any success in rewiring your brain to be detail-oriented? I am proficient in my understanding and do well in my work - I just miss the dumbest things! Advice??Thank you

Your mind is wavering, right? Not focused enough, not concentrated enough. It is because you have little bad habits here and there that are holding you back. For example, do you give way to procrastination and ease a lot? Do you give way to gluttony and eat for pleasure? Do you wait and not do everything that has to be done on time, and shirk duty?

Your character is an aggregation of your deeds, therefore if you keep giving way to ignoble deeds and laziness, your character and mind will suffer as a result. Pay attention to the smaller details in life, treat the smallest things as though as they were the most important things ever, starting in your own personal life. The big things in life are made up of small details, so make sure that you get them right.

"Throroughness consists in doing little things as though as they were the greatest things in the world, That the little things of life are of primary importance, is a truth not generally understood, and the thought that little things can be neglected, thrown aside, or slurred over, is at the root of that lack of thoroughness which is so common, and which results in imperfect work and unhappy lives. When one understands that the great things of the world and of life consists of a combination of small things, and that without this aggregation of small things the great things would be nonexistent, then he begins to pay careful attention to those things which he formerly regarded as insignificant."

"The first step in the discipline of the mind is the overcoming of indolence. This is the easiest step, and until it is perfectly accomplished, the other steps cannot be taken. Indolence consists in giving the body more ease and sleep than it requires, in procrastinating, and in shirking and neglecting those things which should receive immediate attention."

Check out the book Mind is the Master by James Allen, where these passages are from. You will find so many applicable wisdom to your life. i am very similar to you too, not paying enough attention to details. But after I got this book, it has inspired me to change my life for the better and I have seen an improvement. We have to give up little pleasures here and there to truly become useful and thorough. I wish you the best in your endeavors! "

Good to hear you found a way to improve! I have few pleasures to give up (as I'm sure most nursing students can agree), but I'd like to find a way to assign value to the little things. I'll look at the book, thanks for the advice :)

Also, stress and physical or mental fatigue make one prone to memory losses and /or inability to concentrate fully on the tasks at hand. Just sayin'.
