Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum. I'm an OR nurse(experience -30 years) working flex time and I've been thinking for a while now either about part time insurance job (no experience in this field) or on line business which I can continue after my retirement. Does anyone have an experience in this area and can give me a hand how to start?

Thanks

OOOH OOH (raising hand) I have this one!!!

Your background is golden. I would suggest that you contact medical suppliers/equipment companies - that you are familiar with in an OR environment. They are always wanting experienced nurses to help with training & inservices for their products. The work could vary, from training sales people (LOL - you know exactly what they need to know) to developing educational materials for their stuff. Most of the "training" is also online these days, so there's not so much onsite 'inservice' work any more - much less travel than there used to be.

You could also contact local nursing & ORT schools - they may have some part time instructor gigs. Seriously, instructors with OR expertise are very RARE!!! You should capitalize on this.

Another option - medical legal consulting. Hey, I know that this may mean going "to the dark side", but there aren't many with your expertise. It's worth a shot & pays pretty well - usually just involves chart audits. If they need courtroom testimony, it's usually done by a surgeon - much more dramatic, doncha know.
