Desperate!!!! New graduate RN in Atlanta

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello everyone, i am a New graduate nurse and ive been looking for employment since May (Before i walked across the stage actually). Everywhere i turn i get the door closed in my face.."Oh we're not hiring New Grads right now check back frequently".. yet again i read forums with other new grads getting hired in all the major hospitals as of Sept 2010.

Its really depressing because i really want to get experienced and certified etc but it seems like no one wants to give me a chance. i dont want to regret the four years that i gave up in undergrad and all the vacations i gave up to stay in and study....im really starting to think that it has alot to do with who you know not what you know. if anyone could give some advice or even be of some assistance it would be GREATLY appreciated.

God Bless.....

I graduated December 09 and got hired at Floyd Medical Center YESTERDAY!! so excited! so don't get discouraged! From the people I talked to recently, I think maybe it's harder to find a nursing job in the summer and that positions really starts opening up in the fall.

I called a few hospitals last week in the Atlanta area and the ones I talked to said:

Piedmont -- all new grad residencies opening up sometime in Oct-early Nov, check the website

Grady -- Apply for any jobs you're interested in, if you qualify they'll call you

Northside -- New grad residency starts in January, look for application online in November

St Joes -- I didn't talk to them but I know they have a new grad residency that starts sometime in the spring. They only hire new grads twice a year.

Floyd called me to set up an interview the same day I applied, and I was hired less than 24 hours later! :D

I reaaaaally wanted to work at CHOA, but I had a lot of difficulty with them -- I could never talk to a real person, they never called me back, and I have had two applications "under review" for new grad positions since June 2nd! and two more under review since August. So they have been kinda a bummer for me. But maybe they just weren't hiring over the summer, and they might in the fall?

good luck!
