An NP can practice in the field of dermatology. There are post-grad Fellowships that the NP can do in dermatology, but there is not a post-grad certification as an NP in dermatology (yet) as recognized by the two main certifying bodies, the ANCC or the AANP.

My classmate and good friend is currently interning (on his own) at a derm practice. We will graduate in August and once he is certified as an FNP he will already be oriented to the practice and will work on his own. He says that going the FNP route was the best choice for him because the derm practice he is currently at sees all ages of patients. Just something to consider. :)
