Depression/Anxiety prevent me from being CNA?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi everyone,

I just went to my family doc and had him fill out the paperwork for my physical examination for the CNA class (I live in Ohio-it's required, I guess.) I have a history of depression and anxiety, and currently take meds for these conditions. I am stable-my doctor said he would attest to that fact if necessary. My question is, will these two conditions prevent me from being a CNA or even taking the class? Will the school hold it against me, or will an employer need to be notified of these conditions?

Thanks.

No, it will not interfere. Several of the CNAs I work with are on antidepressants. It's nothing to be ashamed about, but it's not something that is any of your employer's business and should not be disclosed to them unless necessary.

Thanks for the reply. I'm on more than antidepressants. I also take Klonopin as needed, Xanax as needed, and Ambien as needed for sleep. I think I'm on 12 different meds, given my asthma, allergies, hypothyroidism, and anxiety and depression. I just don't want the school I'm attending to reject me b/c of my health conditions. My doctor gave me a clean bill of health, but will the school believe him given the number of meds I take?

Schools couldn't care less what medications you are on or what health conditions you have, as long as you have the money to pay for the class. They're in this to make money, nothing else.
