DePaul MENP Winter 2019

Published

I recently applied to DePaul's MENP Direct Entry Nursing Program on the June 15th deadline (Lincoln Park) and have yet to hear anything back. Is there anyone who has been accepted yet?

I think we are all in the same boat, patiently waiting for responses. My materials have been submitted for a few weeks as well. Best of luck to all of you. Hope they have room to accept all of us.

Hi everyone,

Wanted to share an update. I received a status update this morning and unfortunately I was not accepted into the program.

I also wanted to to share a little about my stats in order to possibly help others applying in the future.

GPA at University where I received my bachelors degree: 3.15 (They waived the GRE requirement)

Pre-Req GPA: 3.0

Cumulative GPA: 2.7 - I worked full time in my early undergrad years, couldn't balance full course load with my job and ended up with poor grades in classes which I later repeated for B's. I took a long break between my Associate Degree and Bachelors Degree.

I have 5 years of experience as a CNA and a total of 10+ years of experience working at my local hospital. I have worked in a Medical Research Internship, and have also been on a Medical Mission trip. I was given recommendations by a previous physician I worked with, a previous manager, and a professor from the University where I earned my Bachelors degree. I truly love people and healthcare.

I called in and spoke with an advisor to learn more about my application and why the committee had decided not to accept me. The deficiencies in my application were as follows: the repeat courses from my younger years hurt me, because I did not earn A's the second time I took them. I earned many "B" grades. My cumulative GPA is low, and Shaw said it would likely help me to take the GRE, perform well to demonstrate that I am more intelligent than my cumulative GPA would indicate. Lastly, I neglected to provide an "action plan" for how I recovered my poor academic performance of early years and how I would continue to do so in the future.

I hope that that this information will be helpful to others considering application, here and elsewhere. I wish I would have known more about some of the things the committee would be looking for before I applied. Mistakes of your past (yes, even 8-10 years ago) can follow you to your present, even if your performance has much improved as of recent. So, work hard and do your best now.

In the meantime, I'll be studying for the GRE, because I cannot go back and fix my past. I can only work harder in the present and hope for a better tomorrow.

Greetings Juli29 ,Thanks for sharing your motivating medical experience, missions and how you plan not give up based of pasr set backs!

Hi, I just want to put my comment over here for anyone who had a chance to look this because her post is really imformative and she is talking about really important topics..

I guess if your GPA is super low like 2.7-3.3, GRE doesn’t work, GRE is help for who may around bottom line of accepted range to appeal that you are more tallented than other else who are at same position with you on the bottom line. The botoom line is depend on school level. Not sure for Depaul.

So, for sure, if your GPA is low and cannot fix your past, but you do really want to get in MSN program, then I recommend you to go post bacc program or other science related to nurse MS program to get higher GPA because all school cares your last attanded school’s GPA. And you may want to retake your prereqs to get all As if possible. So take easy professor searching “ratemyprofessor”

Again, all scholl doesnot care any extra experiences or extra test results as super boost up. Those are competitive for who are at the boundary of acceptace. So remember, no matter where you apply, all schools DO MATTER GPA first 99%.

GPA IS MATTER
