DePaul MENP Fall 2015

U.S.A. Illinois

Hey there prospective DePaul students!

I just recently submitted my application for the 2015 fall cohort. I am anxiously awaiting to hear back from admissions! Has anyone else heard back?

Hello Everyone, Congratulations to those of you who have been accepted to DePaul's MENP program! I saw a couple people at the RFU campus who were able to sit in some of our classes. It was such a pleasure to have you! Since the Lincoln Park cohort has created a facebook page, there's now a page created for those at the RFU campus: "DePaul MENP Fall 2015 - RFU Cohort" (public group for now). Please feel free to join! I'm currently in the program and will be happy to help as much as I can with questions. I believe applications are still being processed as there was an unexpected delay. Alyssa Nagy, who posted on this forum previuosly, is a great resource as well. :)

@Indelible_Smile Thanks for creating the Rosalind Franklin page. I just got accepted to the program and I'm super excited. Would you be able to provide a little more information on what your schedule is like in the MENP program? And if possible any info on the clinical locations? Thanks so much!

For those who are attending at the Rosalind Franklin campus, is anyone looking for a roommate for off campus housing?

Hi jess674. Congratulations on your acceptance to the program! That is just fantastic. I really enjoy this program and can't believe how much I've learned even after just the first quarter! I'm in my second to last quarter now, and can't believe how fast time is flying. Okay, to answer your questions, my first quarter was a bit different than yours will be because I had to take four classes where you should just be taking three, if that welcomed change has already been made. A typical schedule schedule now is having one to two classes per day usually with one weekday off per week. For example, I'll have a 3-4 hour class in the morning from 8:15-11, have a long break 'til my second class begins at either 1 or 4, where I usually stay on campus and study in between. The other days I'll just have one class either in the morning or evening and an all-day clinical once a week. Sometimes I use the campus gym (okay, I really just watch other people use the gym) during that break or around other classes. You'll be able to come and practice clinical skills in their lab or come in for free tutoring if you choose as well. It's a lot of hard work, but I really like how the classes really compliment each other. What I learn in one class really applies to material I'm learning in another, which helps me learn and understand faster than I thought I would.

Most of the available hospitals are luckily closer to RFU than they are to downtown Chicago. My first clinical was at a lovely nursing home, Addolorata in Wheeling, but they've added other nursing homes since I've started. I've been to Advocate Condell in Libertyville (one of my favorites!), Lovell Federal Health Care Center (which is right in front of the campus), there's clinicals available at Lake Forest Hospital, and Vista in Waukegan. For Peds and OB, we all had to go to Chicago at Lurie Children's, Prentice, or Lutheran General, which was such a great experience. That quarter, we had two clinical days per week. I'm really looking forward to my nurse externship where I'll be on a nurse's schedule during the week!

I hope that helps!

@Indelible_Smile, I am awaiting a decision from RF. I was told that it is possible to get into the Fall'15 program. I have been looking at the student handbook and I see that CPR certification is necessary. Do you have to get it before starting the program or is it offered on campus? Also, is a car absolutely necessary on RF campus or is public transportation adequate?

Hello ami93

It'll be important to have your CPR certification prior to starting classes. I can find out if this campus offers CPR certification, but I do know it is not a part of orientation.

As far has needing a vehicle, I highly, highly recommend it. You would be able to manage fine without one just to get to classes, but there isn't a grocery store within walking distance, and winters are cold, cold, cold! Also, more importantly, clinical sites, with the exception of one, are at least a 30 minute drive from campus, and some clinical rotations are offered in the evening. Carpooling may be an option, but there will be times when you'll be doing clinical independently of your classmates. Public transportation can take a very long time. A 30 minute car ride can take upwards of 2.5 hours with trains/busses when trying to travel east/west.

Hey everyone, congrats to those accepted to the 2015 fall cohort. I want to apply here and I know LP campus is more competitive, but could anyone tell me what that means? I know their min. requirements and was just wondering about stats for acceptance. I know every case is different, I guess I wish I could've done better as an undergrad. and am wondering if I would even be competitive for this program. I still have to take the GRE this June too.

Hi Everyone!

I was accepted for the Fall Cohort at the Rosalind Campus back in February and am pretty anxious to start. I am in finals week for some of my prereqs so I deactivated any social media for the time being but if you will be in the same cohort, please feel free to email me :) [email protected]

Thank you @ indelible_Smile. I am gonna ask that my application be deferred till Winter 2016. Congratulations to all who got accepted!!

I'm a current MENP student looking to sell books from NSG 301-Fundamentals and NSG 322-Pharmacology, please email me at [email protected] if you are interested.

It's nothing worth getting excited about, explores other options if possible...disorganized...
