Denver School of Nursing

U.S.A. Colorado

I start this school in October and have a few questions. Is anyone currently attending the LPN program? How is it? Is it difficult? The main question that i have is what hours is the school. i heard from jeff johnson that school is M-F 8-6. there is no way that is correct - right?! please help. what hours do you go to school? Let me know how it is going - grazi!

I also want to add my thanks for the information provided. I'm also starting the BSN program in October 06 (!). You can take the NCLEX and be a nurse if you finish this program. JUST DON'T LEAVE--your credits might not transfer until the school becomes accredited.

I'm doing the self-pay option. I have fairly decent credit, so I called my credit card companies and got a reasonably low interest rate (0% until March 2008, then 7.99% after that. I highly recommend Chase for credit cards--when I explained my financing situation they really worked for me.) I'm also doing a short-term loan through my bank for part of the financing--again, I explained the problem and got a lower interest rate than the Sallie Mae loan.

Nelnet and some other companies offer private student loans as well, so you might try some of those options. I hope this helps! (It is REALLY expensive to go to school without federal aid. I'm already envisioning two years of Ramen noodles for dinner. )

Lucky! I was hoping to start in October 06, but was a little late for that. Please keep posting so I'll know what to expect. :)

Thanks for the great idea about calling the credit card companies. I have just been sitting around waiting for that great, long-term 0% offer to arrive in my mailbox, I never thought to call and ask. I also have a home equity line of credit on my house to use, but I much prefer the 0% interest!

I am also starting the BSN program in October, so I bet I will see you at orientation on the 25th.

Good luck to all of us.

Colorado nursing programs accredited by the National League of Nursing: CSU-Pueblo, Metro State, Otero JC, Pueblo CC, and UCHSC.

Not Front Range, not CCD, not Arapahoe, not Aims or any other well-known nursing program in Colorado. At least DSN is a candidate for NLN accreditation, and all nursing programs are APPROVED by the state of Colorado (accreditation and approval are not the same thing). Then again, all state of Colorado approved nursing programs are required to attain accreditation by 2010 anyway. Going to DSN is no different from going to any other non-accredited nursing program in colorado, of which there are many.

Yeah, that's a good point to make. To clarify, the BON is REQUIRING all programs to get NLN accreditation by 2010. So, all of the CCCS schools, such as CCD, Frontrange, Arapahoe, Red Rocks, etc are in the works at getting NLN accreditation. Also, the powers that be are moving all of the staff, (deans, instructors, etc) from successful programs to the "less than successful programs, to revamp them. I have to say, I attend CCD and I am pleasantly surprised.

Hey everyone,

I'm going to start a new thread about DSN that talks about my experiences as a student there. When I was trying to find out info about the program (scheduling, etc,) they were not super-forthcoming, so hopefully this will help. If anyone else has stuff to say, of course add it!

P.S. Here's a link to that thread if you're interested in reading/adding to it.
