So I was wondering what the job market was like out there for psych nurses as opposed to OR nurses.
Where is there a lot of demand for psych nurses. I'm specifically interested in Cali, Michigan, NYC, and Chicago, whats it like there in terms of demand for psych nurses?
Also, I was wondering if there are decent travel nursing oppertunities for psych nurses?
Thank you :)

I think there are. I am a Canadian RPN/RN in psych for many years. One firm is offering good money in Vermont as well.
Thank you :). I am an RN, with OR experience (1 yr, now off on a medical leave). I have always been interested in mental health, and now more than ever I want to do something in it. I've looked at the Douglas College Certificate in Mental Health Nursing, and since I'm off I have decided to take the courses. I've already started studying, and then I thought if I had a certificate it might make it easier to get a job in psych. My only concern was that I know OR nurses are very much in demand, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to regret it in the long run, in terms of opportunities.
No, but I would think that you would be OK without the Douglas college courses. There is such a high demand.
I worked at Riverview in Coquitlam for awhile back in the 80s.

You're probably right. I was told however when I went to a job fair recently that since its been about 2 yrs since I graduated, the managers might have to think about it, these are recruiters however. I was told by many other nurses that there is a definate shortage in psych units in vancouver, and that I probably would get a job, especially if I just talk to the managers, especially considering how keen I am.
Since I'm at home for a month or so I thought why not just take some courses and just refresh my knowledge. I've already read most of the current textbook (VIDEBACK), the one I found at BCIT. If I have a course or two, it won't hurt me. I'm fascinated with psych anyways, so its not going to be a big deal for me.
