+/- Demand For CRNA's....

Hello,

As I have stated in earlier posts, I have an ultimate goal of eventually becoming a CRNA. I was wondering and have been doing some searching trying to find an answer to the question that has been on my mind, but I have yet to find a definitive answer.

My Question:

Has there been any informational statistics that have been published that shows the potential growth rate in the future in this particular field of expertise? To make myself perfectly clear, I am wondering if there would ever be a chance of there ever being a "surplus" of CRNA's in the future.

From what I understand, there is a very high demand for CRNA's for many reasons and also a shortage of CRNA's, but then I have read that in the future there will be a decrease in demand for CRNA's, which may just be a biased opinion, I'm not sure.

Could anybody enlighten me on this subject?

Thank You

More than demand for anesthesia provider statistics, i'd look at the ages of our population and the fact that the baby boomers are getting older, sicker, etc and there is a very large number of them. The need for anesthesia providers will be increasing for quite some time. Not only is the baby boomer generation going to assure us of this, but look at the obesity rate in our country. With obesity come tons of complications and risk factors for other diseases/problems. I think about it this way if people are weighing more, more sickley, getting older, etc = more jobs for a long time to come. I hope that this helps somewhat.

TexasCCRN,

That makes a great deal of sense if you look at it from that prospective, thank you for shedding some light on this subject.
