+/- Demand For CRNA's....
Hello, As I have stated in earlier posts, I have an ultimate goal of eventually becoming a CRNA. I was wondering and have been doing some searching trying to find an answer to the question that has been on my mind, but I have yet to find a definitive answer. My Question: Has there been any informational statistics that have been published that shows the potential growth rate in the future in this particular field of expertise? To make myself perfectly clear, I am wondering if there would ever be a chance of there ever being a "surplus" of CRNA's in the future. From what I understand, there is a very high demand for CRNA's for many reasons and also a shortage of CRNA's, but then I have read that in the future there will be a decrease in demand for CRNA's, which may just be a biased opinion, I'm not sure. Could anybody enlighten me on this subject? Thank You

Want To Pursue BSN, but...
Hello, I have a goal of obtaining my BSN, and then pursuing other goals within the nursing field after obtaining my BSN. At this point I already have an Associates Degree in General Studies, and I am just about to receive my Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology. At this poing I will have to go ahead and knock out the science pre-reqs to be admitted into the BSN program, and have been devising an action plan as to how I will go about doing so, I do not need to obtain the degree as fast as possible, but I have been excercising the thoughts of getting into the BSN program after I have the science pre-reqs, and then gain ICU experience, and then ultimately get into advanced studying to become a CRNA. My only delimma is that I have a 1-year old baby daughter, and mentally I am having some doubts that I will be able to pursue this goal due to the fact that you have to invest a great deal of time with children. I want to be the best father that I can for her, and provide everything that she needs, and I feel education and life-long learning is without a doubt the key to being a successful individual. Sorry for being so lengthy, but I had to explain the situation, and basically wanted to hear the opinions and advice of others who have had similar situations, or are currently dealing with this sort of situation. Also I have heard some rumors that CRNA's are on the decline as far as the need, but I don't see how that has any truth to it, any opinions? All advice and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Newbie Needs Advice...
Yeah, I was reading the requirements to get accepted into the BSN program to the college that I will be attending, and it says that you have to have 13 out of the 17 pre-reqs completed before applying to their program. I have all of my general classes out of the way, now I just need to go ahead and get these science courses out of the way. I think I'm gonna take them at a community college, due to the fact that it's alot cheaper and they'll transfer over, plus I need to raise my GPA to be more competitve to have a better chance to get into the program. Does that make sense? Thanks to all

Thanks to everybody, I definitely have a clear explaination as to what I need to do now. I'm glad I found this forum and asked for advice before deciding to just go for the ADN, I will go ahead and see if I can get into a BSN program.

Okay, I understand what everybody has been saying, and it makes alot of sense. Being that I don't have any of my science courses completed, I should go ahead and complete some of them before I go and try to get in a BSN program, correct? Thank you to everybody for taking time to help me out.

Okay, but I thought that you had to graduate an ADN program, take the NCLEX Exam to become a licensed RN, and then you can be accepted into a BSN Degree program, correct? I will definitely look into what you have suggested about maybe being able to go directly into a BSN program. By transfering credits from the AA Degree that I posess at this time, these are the classes that I will need to receive an ADN at a my 2-year college: Chemistry (4 credits) Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits) Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits) Microbiology (4 credits) Psychology (3credits) Medical Terminology for Health Care Workers (1 credit) Orientation to the Nursing Program (1 credit) Pharmacology & Med Administration II (1.5 credits)

I understand what you are saying, but the only thing about my associates is that I don't have the type of AA Degree that you possess. I don't have all of the sciences that you need to qualify for an RN and to start a BSN program. Although it would be nice to be able to bypass the ADN, I know that I will have to obtain it to progress to the next phase and get admitted into a RN-BSN program. Ultimately I want to achieve the final goal of becoming a CRNA. I have a long road ahead of me, but I am a patient individual and willing to work hard to achieve my ultimate goal.

WannaBeMaleRN & arciedee, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I have been doing some research and I think I am all cleared up on all the courses that I'll need. As you described, I will need A&P I/II, Microbiology, Psychology, and Chemistry for all of my general core & Co-requisites. I already have all of the other course requirements that are needed. Completion of these classes will give me an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN) as arciedee, then I will need to take the NCLEX to receive my RN Licensure. After I achieve this goal, my plan is to go forward an receive my RN-BSN Degree. I know this will take some time, but I'm a patient individual. Does it sound like anything is missing? Thanks

Newbie Needs Advice...
Hello, I am ready to make the decision to start my journey to becoming a registered nurse. I am a little confused as to what I will need to do to get started on the road to my goal. I currently have my Associates degree in General Studies from a 2-Year college, I am confused about because I am wondering if I would have to obtain an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN), or if my current Associates Degree is acceptable. I am not sure if I will basically need to start over completely at square 1, or if I can use courses from my Associates Degree to cover some of the required courses that I need to become a RN. Once I become a RN, eventually I will start taking courses to obtain my BSN. I have been searching around the internet, but I haven't found anything that explains it in a way that is understandable. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
