Hi everyone,
Changing a colostomy bag on a new post op client and taking vital signs after 15 minutes, can be delegated the CNA ?

Nope..I would not delegate those tasks because they are post op

I agree. Those tasks are part of your initial post-op assessments. After the patient is stable then they could be delegated.

You can only delegate those if it was NOT a post op patient. The nurse needs to do that in case of an emergency with the patient. Im using the PDA by Lacharity and it gives you what you can and cannot delegate.

i guess changing a colostomy bag is standard unchanging procedure

if those two tasks cant be delegated for CNA, is an LPN allowed for those two tasks ?

The RN is responsible for assessing the colostomy and intervening as needed, however changing the colostomy bag can be delegated if the CNA has been trained in changing a colostomy bag. For example, if you assess that the colostomy bag has a large amount of bloody stool, you can delegate emptying or changing the bag while you assess the patient and intervene as needed by obtaining labs, further assessments and notifying the patient's physician.
This is another delegation question.
1. Can a ER Charge nurse delegate a new ER nurse for new admission assessment ?
2. Can a Med Surg Charge nurse delegat a new Med Surg nurse for health teaching?
