This may sound like a sad question but my advisor won't help me and I have nowhere really to turn.
So my question is that I have recently decided that I want to do nursing but my first year of college wasn't so great (3.0) but what helped is that I took chemistry 1&2 and got A's in both and that's what really sparked my interest in nursing. So this year I was advised to really get my GPA up! After I changed my major it was too late to get into any science class so this year I'm taking College Algebra, Human Development, a music class, and Sociology. I still have a year and a half left of pre-reqs... BUT.. I'm getting a C in Algebra and it's the second time I'm taking it. I want to drop the class because I dont want the C.. Is this a good idea? Or should I just take the C and move on. It won't help my GPA and possibly look bad! But I want a good grade so my GPA will be 4.0 for the semester and really help my GPA!!
Any suggestions on what I should do???

Hello New York_Heart,:balloons:
I cannot believe (well, I believe you) that an advisor would not "advise" you. That is just wrong.
As you probably are aware, most nursing programs are accepting the candidate with a high GPA. Some programs are only accepting those with 4.0
Can you drop now and not have a W-F? If so, this might be the thing to do and take it again.
I wish you luck and if you can.....change advisors.

That's a tough decision. If it was me, I would try to stick it out and do whatever I could to try and pull my grade up. Of course, I don't know how far along you are in the semester and if you have enough time to bring up your grade. Another thing to consider: would you do any better in the class if you drop and take it later? If algebra is just not your strong suit, you could end up dropping it and getting a C again when you retake it.
Also, make sure there is no penalty. At my school, if you attempt a prerequisite more than 2 times they deduct points from your GPA.

I was in the same situation and dropped out. I retook it and made an A. We are not penalized in our school for retaking classes so I just went ahead and dropped it and took it again. Good luck!! I didn't want a C because I was afraid that after the drop date I would make worse than a C.

I'd finish it out and retake it if necessary, but also do what you can to salvage the rest of the semester. Algebra is mostly about remembering all the rules, like a foriegn language kinda. Try going back and making sure you've learned every rule from the beginning. You're probly about a little more than halfway through the semester? You may surprise yourself with just some review, give it a try.
