Hi all,
I have been a regular reader of this site, but this is my first time posting. I have a question for experienced nurses out there on which job should I choose. I live in NYC and I have an opportunity to work as an RN in a clinic that's affiliated with a major hospital. It is in the internal medicine department. I would be working with three or four doctors administering vaccines but the bulk of the job is telephone triage. The commute is not as far as the second, it is in the same borough in which I live. The other job is in a doctor's office but it is about an hour commute, in bad weather it might be longer. I definitely would have to drive. The duties not only involve duties that an RN does in a doctor's office but it also involves assisting with endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. I am still new to nursing. The only nursing job that I had was also in a doctor's office in internal medicine which involved rooming patients, administering vaccines, telephone triage, taking vitals, assisting in some procedures, but not many. First job that I have been offered is affiliated with a major hospital so it has very good benefits and there is room to grow or move to. A family member who also is a nurse is encouraging me to take that job to get my foot in the door with this major facility. What is attractive about the second job offer is the GI procedures that I would be learning. I will also be starting IVs which is something I have not done. The organization is smaller but it does have other offices that I can transfer to if I want to. I just see this as a good learning opportunity. So I don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated.

I would pick the first job to get my foot in the door. Location and connections are huge when something does indeed open up.

My 2 cents
I also think the clinic position in the major hospital branch is good too. You have to think in the benefits, the growing opportunities and connections. The other one although you will learn in a short time something new. Its not going to give y the stability you need.
