Debating as to what state to apply for NCLKEX-RN after being denied by CABON...

Hi! I'm one of the hundreds of Filipino nursing graduates whose application got denied by California BON. I had to retake MS and OB. I've tried to apply to a nursing school in Oakland but got no luck yet. The school said they'd hold my application until May 2014 and will let me know once they have a slot available for me, until then will I be able to continue the school application process.

So now, I've decided to just take nclex in a different state. I'd rather not go out of state but I don't wanna be sitting here doing nothing and waiting for something I'm not even sure of.

Anyone out there who got denied by CABON and applied to BON in another state and got their ATT? I'm deciding as to what state to apply. I've heard about Hawaii. Anyone please? I just don't want to apply then just find out the same problem I've been through with CABON. Please advise. Thank you!!

Here's the deal: pick a state (other than CA, NV to name a few) where the enforcement of the concurrency rules are actually NOT actually done at this present time. Plan to stay in that State to start planting your roots: buy a house or condo, raise your kids to college age and beyond.

Forget about trying to endorse any out of state RN license back into CA, it's not going happen as the CA BRN will ALWAYS review your original school's transcripts, even with a few years or decade of nursing experience. As long as the concurrency enforcement is on-going, so will the denial.

There have been a couple of lucky ones applying into TX and have even started work as an RN. Some places in TX are located in some not so nice areas or near the border towns (don't wish or get the late night shifts, not so safe). NY is good, but like in CA, the jobs are very competitive and not a lot of open spots (many hospitals there are closing). Do you wish for a hospital or nursing home or dialysis or what desired nursing job?

Don't do what a lot of others do by applying into the "easiest, fastest and cheapest" state to get licensed, then try to endorse, as they were originally trying to AVOID getting their courses evaluated, having to take the dreaded English proficiency exams, etc, only to find out by trying to endorse into their first most desired state, they now need to do the items that they were trying to avoid in the first place.

It's a total waste of time and money (this "state-hopping"), so instead of looking for a job, they end up waiting months again and spending more money for application fees. Then they all whine and complain. It now becomes the "hardest, slowest and expensive" way as having any out of state license is NO guarantee to successfully endorse over and not going to happen overnight or in a few weeks.

I know from my US educated nursing friends of their friends/classmates, many are going to TX as well, due to more job openings. But they can get the 1-2 years of hospital experience there and eventually have the option to come back to CA with no problems if they are able to land a job to be closer to family and friends.

Btw, it's not one of hundreds affected, more like thousands since 2011 now.

Your other option is to take the LVN exam route in CA, find a job (work for a year at least), then apply into a LVN-RN school, but just know some do require the one year of paid experience to even apply and these courses are very competitive at the local schools but cheaper vs the private schools but $$$$ (they don't accept fingers, legs, arms or kidneys as a form of payment, lol).

Hi steppybaby! Thanks for the info. I know that I won't be able to get reciprocity in CA in case I'd be licensed in another state..I don't intend to do that. I'm just trying to figure out which state would be best to apply for nclex. Do you happen to know which other states are having concurrency issues aside from CA?

Steppybay, such a dilemma. If I'm already licensed in the philippines but didn't have "paid" experience working in a hospital and want to take exam for lvn, do I have to study again? Or do i just apply for it and will be eligible to take the exam? Is the 4-year course I took up in PH enough? I might try LVN but I'm confused with method 2 or 3. I don't know if I'm qualified to any of those methods

There's no need to take any more classes or courses to take the LVN, simply use method #3. Your BSN is good enough. There's a few good threads here that are pretty good to answer all your questions on how when and where to apply, almost a step-by-step guide. T

The BVPNT is not enforcing the concurrency rules as of this present time, but it's clearly on their website, so get in your application as soon as possible.

From the CA BVPNT website it now says as one of the disclaimers: " Indicators that the program may be unapproved or cannot be deemed equivalent: Lack of concurrent instruction of theory and clinical practice.

You'll also find that this licensing board (not connected directly with the CA BRN) is pretty far behind in processing international applicants, I think as of now, they are now just getting to those that applied in Feb or March, 2013.

Don't You need to have a "paid general nursing experience" plus the equivalent education? I'm already licensed in Ph but didn't get to work in a hospital. I got no experience at all working as a nurse in Ph. I noticed there's a form that needs to be filled out by the employer. I'm confused
