I' pretty brand new to the entire college thing and nursing field. I've been in a totally different field since I been out of high school and now I am looking to get into nursing at the age of 26. I would like to do this the right way I realize this is going to be a long and challenging road. Does anyone know about DCCC's Pre-Nursing Option? Is this a pretty good way for someone to get into a good RN program in the future? I would really like to get into a 4 year program after I do Dccc's pre nursing option.
Any help or advise/ direction would be great. Feel free to private message me or post on here thanks.

Hi Jasonber26,
DCCC has a pretty good nursing program but it's very competitive to get into. I would suggest that you make an appointment with one of the career counselors at DCCC to discuss your options. Usually, you would enroll in either an ADN or BSN nursing program (You can sit for the NCLEX exam with either degree). If you enroll in a ADN nursing program you can then look into a RN to BSN program in 4 year university. Some 4 year universities do not accept students as a transfer student into their nursing program. For example, West Chester University just announced it will no longer accept transfer students into their 4 year BSN program. They only accept students for their RN to BSN program.
The prereqs are different for each. For example, Biology and Chemistry courses are not required for a ADN but are required for a BSN. Again, prereqs for a BSN vary per institution and you need to do research into the institutions you are interested in attending.
I was accepted for the 2010 nursing program at DCCC. My plan is to get my ADN degree and become an RN. Then, either attending West Chester's or Temple's RN to BSN program.
