Hello. I just found out that I will be starting nursing classes in January. Woo Hoo!

My question is to anyone going to Daytona Beach CC who may know/have any information on how things are at the Flagler Campus for the Nursing Fundamentals class. The instructor is Barbara Pinkerton.

I hope I did the right thing by taking the seat instead of waiting until August 2004 which was what my original letter said. Flagler is quite a drive from my house (75 miles one way) and I just found out that the first two classes are taken at Flagler before people are able to transfer to the Daytona Campus.

At any rate, I would appreciate any info....

Thanks!

Shiva,

hey neighbor! I go to DBCC too! I desperately want to get into the nursing program there! just wanted to say hi! Also, I was wondering what the process was for you to get in and when u applied? I took the pre reqs last fall and spring(I have the classes needed for both LPN and RN, Id go into either one), but everyone I knew there was saying the waiting list was over a year long. I didnt want to wait that long and thought it was a lost cause so my dumb self didnt even apply! I thought u had to complete the pre reqs before applying and then later found out u can apply while enrolled in them. Then in April or so I didnt apply because I thought I couldnt get in until NEXT January(thats what I heard but thats what I get for listening to gossip! I work full time so never had time to actually visit the nursing ppl in the nursing dept to find out the real truth so I was only going by what ppl in my classes told me)

Can u only apply in the fall and spring at dbcc? I could really kick myself. I took the NET at SCC, and thought I was getting in the LPN that starts in February but there was a mix up with my DBCC transcripts and although I got my application in on the 1st day of the application period, it got knocked entirely out of the applicant pool!! I am so upset and frustrated because I want to go to nursing school so bad and I keep going in circles about it!! I did find a tech school in Orlando that has a part time LPN starting in June that is in the evenings and on Saturdays for 18 months. I am completing all their requirements for their application process right now. You have to get all the documentation including a physical and dental exam and TB skin test and proof of MMR as well as references before they will officially accept u. So far so good, and I hope to go to this one because at least I can still work and support myself. My first choice was dbcc though and all the time Ive spent trying to save time, Ive wasted more time!! Sorry for rambling but Id appreciate any info u have on getting in at DBCC. thanks and congratulations on your getting in! obviously u are a lot smarter about it than I was! ;)

Yes, you can only apply in the Spring (May) and Fall (September). They do place you on a list with the people who have completed more of the classes at the top. If you already have all of your pre-req's then you shouldn't have much of a wait...but that depends on how many people apply.

I applied in May and was initially scheduled for August 2004, but they ended up moving me up because someone ahead of me on the list decided they didn't want to start the program.

At any rate, good luck.

I applied in May of 2003, got accepted for January 2005, but got called in early to start in August 2004. Quite a wait, but worth it, in my opinion. I also applied at SCC in hopes of getting in sooner, but I also had a problem with my transcripts getting sent over in time so I didn't get in their program. At any rate, how are you doing in the program? What do you think of it thus far?

Hey Jennifer,

Congrats on getting into the program in August! I also looked into applying at SCC but decided that I would just stick with Daytona since I have been pleased so far with all of the other classes I've taken there.

I will be starting second semester in August and looking forward to it. So far I am doing okay. The bookwork has been easier for me than the clinicals...for alot of people it's the other way around.

Do you know yet which campus you will be at? If you have any questions about anything, let me know..... Good Luck!

Glad things are going well for you. I'm going to be at the Daytona campus. Orientation isn't until August 10th, geesh, sounds awfully late considering classes start late August. Any pointers you can give me on the program? :) Thanks.
