day shift on med/surg or nights in ICU, which would be better?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Hi there, I currently work as a CNA at my local hospital on nights med/surg 7p-7a 3 times a week. I accepted a day shift position on the same floor but ortho med/surg instead of neuro. I applied for days due to the fact that nights are exhausting and I'm pretty much always tired. However I then got a call for a job in ICU I applied for awhile ago but it is on nights. I'm very indecisive on which job to pick since both have pros and cons to me. I'm not a fan of med/surg and on days I would be doing pretty much the same thing (lots of vitals, baths, accuchecks, turns, ekg's, transporting patients to/from surgery, etc.) I know that in ICU they do blood drAws, bathe the patients on vents, accuchecks, and I'm not sure what else. The nurses seem to be pretty helpful and on their patients down there. I think the ICU woul be a great oppurtunity for me especially since I'm going to school to be an RN, however I do not know if I want to keep doing the night thing. I'm having a really hard time deciding which is more important: getting experience in a field I'm more interested in or working days? I keep going back and forth and cannot decide. If anyone could pass along some advice for me I would greatly appreciate it! Because I'm torn and don't know what to do. :(

This is your 5th or 6th post in the last few days about the exact same thing. People have answered your previous posts. I do not intend to be rude with this at all, but if you didn't get the answer you wanted, or if you want more people to respond, reposting the same thing is not the way to go. You can bump your original post by responding to it. It will then go to the top of that forum's page.

Sorry, I guess I didn't realize I could bump my old posts up I just started using the site a few days ago. Just having a tough time making a decision and everyone at the hospital has a biased opinion and my family and friends don't know anything about working in a hospital so I was hoping to get some good advice on here. My bad

I work in ICU as an PCT and i like it... see if ur hospital do weekend status so you will be able to focus on school.

i would think days would be much harder...i wouldnt make it as a day person!

Night shift and school is not a good mix. Trust me

studying and trying to bounce back between days and nights will take a toll on you
