I am currently studying for the NCLEX-RN and came upon a question about infection precautions. The book is saying that if a patient has meningococcal meningitis they are placed on airborne precautions. All other sources say droplet precautions. Obviously i'm having the "I take my NCLEX soon therefore I must forget everything and get easily confused" syndrome. Thanks in advance!

I think the bacterial meningitis is the more contagious one, and you would implement airborne precautions. Now the only time it is droplet is when it is viral meningitis, which is less contagious. Make sure you go over who you would pair a patient with viral meningitis with, in case hospital staff needs an extra room, same with bacterial meningitis. Hope this helps!

If you find discrepancies, just need to come up with a rationale for a choice and stick with that, otherwise you will get bent around the axle and waste precious time and worry.

I'd just memorize meningitis = droplet.. as what most sources says and move on. lol gotta save memory space
I've been doing Davis's Q&A question too, and starting to note some of the rationale on there are incorrect or just plain silly.. makes me not sure if i can completely trust this book = = darn!
but o well, my plan is to also do Saunder and Kaplan's question too from now on.
and always double check the information if you are not sure about it. :)
good luck!
I did find a few problems with Davis but overall I really felt that book contributed to me passing. The entire NCLEX I felt like "This is exactly what Davis was asking me..." My biggest suggestion is to read the rationales on SATA because sometimes they can be a bit confusing. I did have one question that was missing an answer so I am going to contact the publisher to let them know. However, despite all of that I recommend that book highly. I actually sat at Barnes and Noble one day reading some of the other books and felt like they didn't compare.
wow, thank u so much for the reply! and congrat on passing the board!!!! :D:D
i feel a lot better now and regained my confidence with the Davis book.. haha :)
did you only studied the Davis book? or did you also use other materials as well?
