A thread for the airing of the grievances. Also known as "med room consultations." 

I am NOT vibing today. I'm 37+1 weeks pregnant, working as an aide on my stepdown trauma unit until I have my baby and start my first job as an RN in the CICU (I am terrified).

What am I greeted with at 0645? A bariatric patient who is vomiting every 15 minutes, with the HOB as high as it'll go, but apparently not high enough because they are consistently missing the emesis basin and puking all down their chin, chest, and gown. It is 1:30 p.m. and I have changed their gown EIGHT times since starting my shift. We ran out of bariatric gowns on my unit, the unit next door, and the unit above us so I told them that I was sorry but we'd have to settle for covering them with a top sheet for now. They began yelling at me, accusing me of trying to "strip them of their dignity." That was not my intention, but we went through all of our bariatric gowns and the regular size does not fit them.

The patient then proceeded to get up and go to the bathroom, walking perfectly fine, but decided that they could not get back to the bed on their own so they wanted me to physically lift them into a wheelchair and wheel them back to bed. (Reminder, I'm 87 million months pregnant). I told them that I could get a wheelchair and wheel them back to bed, but I could not and would not lift them into the chair. They began to yell at me again, saying that I was in the "wrong line of work, honey" and that I was not cut out for this job. They eventually stood themselves up without much fanfare, plopped down into the wheelchair, and I wheeled them the 5 feet back to bed. Where they promptly vomited on the clean sheets. I have 11 other patients and I've barely seen them today. I'm typing this as I wait for a patient to finish up in the bathroom. I'd like to go home now, thank you.

My critical care unit got some BS national award in 2021. One of those meaningless pencil pusher things that gets added to a sign near the front door announcing that we're so great. One of my coworkers has been sending multiple emails to our manager, director of nursing, and regional VP asking to buy us pins to commemorate the award. Who in the heck cares about a pin?! And this is coming from a coworker, not management. I don't get it.

JBMom - It's called trying to SUCK UP to the TPTB.

Am glad you're trying to take care of yourself and NOT cave in to the whims & demands of inconsiderate & rude others.

And a funny follow up is that even though there haven't been any pins purchased or given out (as far as I know), we recently had a notice sent out reminding us that we cannot put pins on our badges because it will damage them. Ha!

Once, we had 9x11 pieces of copier paper with a made-up form on them, headed by the words "Pat On The Back:" To:_______________From:_________For:__________

I whited out the "ack" and changed it to "utt".

I'm being serious, where was your help?  

I'm sorry you had this assignment, this shouldn't have been your patient considering the needs of the patient and your pregnancy progression smh.

The nurses at my hospital use the Tshirts during work. Hosptial branded appropriate color attire is within the uniform policy (The tShirts are appropriate colors).

We've been getting a lot of t-shirts as well, I would guess that unlike pizza, t-shirts serve the purpose of promoting the hospital if we wear them out in public.

The problem is the hospital has only been buying "women's cut" t-shirts for the nursing staff.  I'm 6'3" 220 lbs, it's not a good look on me.
