Cystic Fibrosis Final Research Paper & Presentation

Published

hi!

i am doing my final research paper & presentation on cystic fibrosis. i'd like to get as much information as possible, and make this a presentation with an impact! i want people to really think, understand, and care about my topic. i've done some research, but am trying to figure out more places to check out. if anyone has any tips/advice, i'd love to hear them! i'd also like to figure out how to get some brochures to hand out to my classmates about cf. where/how would i go about getting something like that? also getting some good visuals would be worthwhile. let me know what you think. thanks! :)

Try the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Sometimes organizations have brochures that you can download and print directly from their website. If not, you can always give them a call and they might be willing to send you some. Also could check with your local pediatric hospital, maybe their GI dept, to see if they would have any info or handouts you could use.

The CF foundation will help a lot.. CF is a disease that not many people know about and I'm glad your informing people of this deadly disease. I have a friend that has CF and people don't realize how serious it is.

I have followed a couple of blogs about CF. It may give more of a personal impact to present the experience of a CF pt.

One of the blogs is of Eva Markvoort. She died a little over a month ago. She was a huge advocate for CF and organ donation. There was a documentary made of her journey to her lung transplant called "65_RedRoses." Her last blog entry would be a powerful beginning. You can read it at: http://65redroses.livejournal.com/

I have 2 kids with CF and would be happy to provide you any information that I can. I am also a nursing student.

hi!

think about your point of the presentation. any presentation about a disease is doomed to be less than helpful because of the sheer volume of information about the disease, so focus it. in particular, focus it on something within a nurse's scope of practice. is it educating parents? is it educating young children with this disease? is it educating teachers about the special needs of their students with this disease? is it nursing interventions (collaborative or otherwise) for hospitalized patients with this disease?

once you have your focus, you can present basic information about the disease itself, including patho and epidemiological data. of course, don't forget the genetic component.

to make the presentation have impact, you could always make your own brochure based on your research. keep the brochure focused according to your presentation--it should look as if it is meant for your target audience. when seeing my classmates' presentations and overhearing the instructors talk with the classmate about their projects, they invariably ask about handouts, "where did you find this?" if the student says, "i made it myself," the instructor usually gives a surprised, "oh!", smiles, and flips through it closely.

hope that helps, and good luck!

eta: follow your presentation rubric! so many students get points docked off excellent presentations because they missed a requirement of the rubric, no matter how insignificant it may seem, e.g., title, name, etc. at the top of the physical presentation. getting points docked for that is a real forehead-slapping moment.

Thank you, everyone! I'll check into everything- I really appreciate the advice. On Monday, I'll get busy! Thanks again. :)
