Cyst or Cancer?

My mom noticed a couple of weeks ago that she had two small lumps on her neck near her lymph nodes. I told her that she should go in to get it checked out just to be safe. Well, she went to the Dr today and he told her that it is probably just a cyst. He said that if it was cancer it would have had to come from somewhere else. If she had an open sore or something on her body he would be worried but she doesn't.

Does this make sense to anyone? Can you please elaborate on this for me. I don't understand why he thinks that it would have to come from somewhere like an open sore?

My Mom had a lump on her neck for 9 months and didn't do anything about it because her ''excellent'' doctor kept reassuring her that it was ''nothing''. When her friend and I finally talked her into insisting on a biopsy, she was dxed with lymphoma. I'm not trying to scare you (and thankfully, 11 years later, my Mom is still with us), but if these don't go away, I'd encourage her to seek a second opinion.

My opinion is, if you have any type of growth that doesn't belong there, get a biopsy, ultrasound or other appropriate diagnostic test right away. No one can tell you by visualization or palpation with 100% accuracy that it's not cancer. Just find out and put your mind at rest.
