Current TCC Nursing Students

Published

I was wondering what any current TCC nursing student could tell me about the schedule for the first year. I have taken all of my sciences including micro and all other general ed courses. Is it a full day, 5 days a week? Thanks.

No, it is not a full 5 days a week. Schedules vary. The nursing department will make a schedule for you, and you are stuck with that schedule for the semester. You have a few weeks to try to trade with someone, but if you trade, you have to trade your theory class and your clinical time. You will have two days of theory (in the classroom), and you will have two, six hour clinical times or one 12 hour clinical time. Last semester, my classes were Mon-Thurs. I had Theory on Mon. and Wed. from 10am-12pm. On Tues. and Thurs., I had clinicals from 7am to 1pm. This semester, I have theory from 8am to 10am on Mon. and Wed, and I have clinicals from 1:30 to 7:30pm on Mon. and Wed. You also have to have time to go to the hospitals before clinical to pick a patient so that you can write a care plan before arriving at clinical. It seems like I spend as much or more time out of class doing work than I do in class/clinicals. Nursing school is very time consuming. Anyway, I wish you luck when school starts, and I hope that you get a schedule you like. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info. I now have at least an idea of what to expect. I have children, so I will need to have a couple of game plans in order. I think it's actually (finally) going to work to our advantage that my husband works nights. It's going to be hard, but it's only two years and it will be better in the long run! :) Thanks again.
