Hi all,
I'm trying to understand the nursing school schedule to plan ahead. I still need to make an appt with a counselor. For NUR 111, I looked up the Fall 2012 schedule so I can plan ahead:
NUR 111 LEC - Mondays - 12:30pm-6pm (does this mean you're in a classroom for 5.5 hours every Monday? The sample schedule under the FAQs says 2 hrs lecture and 3 hrs asynchronous. What exactly does this mean? 2 hours in classroom and 3 hours meeting online? If so, why is the schedule then 12:30pm-6pm?)
NUR 111 CLN - There's one section where it's just 1 hour every Tuesday with a class size limit of 6 people but most sections are 8 hours during the day. I'm assuming this is the clinical. Are there no options to do clinicals on a Saturday or Sunday? I didn't see any this semester. Are those ever available? Also, why is there 1 section that's only 1 hour a week?
NUR 111 LAB - I see this is the lab. Most sections are 1.5 hrs once per week; don't really need any clarity there.
I'm asking because I'll need to work some while I'm in nursing school..need enough hours to pay the bills is all.
Thank you!

I am currently a first year student at the MEC. Here is my breakdown.
NUR 111 Lec - This is pretty straight forward, we have our main lecture from 12:15-2:55pm. Then we take a 30 minute break, then go for our second lecture which is broken down into smaller groups because we do more hands on work (ie: SOAP notes) this goes on from 3:30-5:30pm.
NUR 111 Lab - 2 hours, there are a host of classes on Tuesday and Wednesday, with one or two selection on Thursdays.
Clinicals - The reason why it is listed only 1 hour is because of their computer system. But you will be doing 7.5 hour clinical shifts. Currently the clinical days are on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on which ever day your lab is not on. There is one site that has clinicals on Saturdays. For the first semester, you will be assigned to your sites, and you have the option to switch with someone else if you can find someone to agree to switch.
Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
Thank you so much!!! Now I understand. Well that gives me a little hope--the fact that there's one group that has Saturdays. I'm hoping I can find a younger college student who doesn't want her clinicals on a Saturday. (I'm a 3rd degree seeking student lol doing a career change to nursing).
