Curiousity about CRNA students gender ratio

Published

Hello,

I was just curious if any current CRNA students would share the gender ratio of their class. I am curious as to how many men vs women are admitted to the program or how many even apply.

Thanks!

1376 females and 823 males took the Certification exam in 2009. I think the most recent stats were that about 45% of CRNA member of the AANA are male and 55% are female. Why do you ask?

That's roughly 16:10 female/male. I wonder if they apply in the same proportion.

Loveanasthesia,

Thanks for replying. I am asking because ultimately I want to become a CRNA and I was wondering if there was a big ratio of female to male students. I am in nursing school right now, and there are very few men compared to women and i was just curious. Some of my fellow students and I were wondering if there were secret quotas for nursing school for men, and I was just wondering if the same applied to CRNA school. Apparently some had lower GPA's than other candidates that didnt get accepted, but the program says that it factors in other information. Personally I would like to think that my grades are what got me in (gpa of 3.7), not my gender LOL.

I can assure you that nurse anesthesia programs want the best students and no one cares if you are male or female.

There is definitely an unofficial male quote in undergrad, but no such thing in anesthesia. Plenty of male applicants.

Thanks for the info everyone.
