Curious RN Student

Published

Hello all,

I'm curious to know more about this particular field in Nursing. Is it necessary to obtain a separate degree? What are job opportunities like? If anyone can shed some light, I'd really appreciate it.

Hi JerseyGirl2010,

The reason why there are no responses yet is probably because there have been similar questions asked in the past that you can find by doing a variety of searches on this site - definitely try that.

Is it necessary to obtain a separate degree?

Not necessarily - although, there are 'Nursing Informatics' degrees.

Does working in an informatics position make you an informatics nurse?

What are job opportunities like?

Depends. You can work directly with clinicians at the bedside, work as a liaison between clinicians and programmers, work with programmers in design and development, work in management roles governing departments or institutions, work with or lead a vendor's sales and/or marketing team, work with and/or lead a training company's training team or an implementation company's implementation team or a go-live support company's at-the-elbow-support team, work as a consultant either independently or via a company, and so much more! All that matters is managing to get an opportunity to get into the role of your desire.

Just curious about Nursing Informatics
