Is anybody else in this program??? I was confronted in July for diverting meds(2 months after getting clean on my own. not that that matters to them!). Which I did while I was sick, but I NEVER denied a pt or did any pt harm. They fired me and to avoid disciplinary action from the board I started the HAVEN program. I really really was not happy about turning my life over to them for 5 years but its not like I had a choice. I also cannot afford this but have some how managed to keep my head above water so far.
I recently tested positive for alcohol on a UA. I had no idea where it came from but after going through things with my therapist I know it was from a couple of glasses of punch a friend gave me. It did not taste like alcohol and I didn't even feel any different from it (which my therapist says could be bc I am on subutex). So now I have to meet with the Dept of Public Health tomorrow and I feel like HAVEN is throwing me to the wolves!!!! The case manager says "my story is weak" and they probably won't believe me and if that is the case they will take me out of HAVEN and put me into the public program!!!! So EVERYONE will be able to see this on my record and my license!!! If that happens I truly think that I will just surrender my license bc there is no way I will get a job after that. I'm not even sure if I will be able to get a job with all of this HAVEN crap after they "allow" me to go back!
I'm just feeling terribly confused and sort of alone in this. I feel like HAVEN wants me out, probably bc I haven't been able to pay all of their fees so far I'm just wondering if anyone else is in this program or if anyone has any kind of. Advice I just need to know I'm not the only one going through this.
Thank you!!!

Can you work during this program? How long do you have to wait?

Can you still work during this program? How long are you out of work?

I am a Haven Member and I feel your pain. You aren't the only one going through this ********.
Just remember you are doing this to stay OUT of a public program. It is the ONLY benefit from working with Haven, and it's a big one. Be very careful and I just didn't listen when they encouraged me to give up my license. That is a trap. Surrendering your license during a disciplinary action, is the same as revocation.
Have you paid them anything? Don't worry, I can help with the answer to that. I can take one guess as to who your Haven case manager is. How far into the 5 years are you? Good luck and I'll watch for your post.t
How could I reach out to you?
Hi all, hopefully someone is still watching this thread and can help answer a couple questions I have. Sorry to intrude, I hope I am not being disrespectful by posting these questions on someone else's thread, but I have not seen many other posts from nurses from Connecticut on here.
I was recently arrested for a DUI and have not reported the arrest to the Department of Public Health yet. I am being told I have 30 days to do this or it looks like I am trying to hide this from the BON. I have also heard the consequences are not going to be any different whether I self report vs. waiting to renew my license vs. letting them find out on their own, and that I would just be telling on myself and opening Pandora's box before it is necessary. Does anyone have any info on this?
The main reason I am asking on this thread is because I have heard of the HAVEN program but have limited knowledge on this. If I choose to work with HAVEN, does that mean I do not have to report this arrest to the Department of Public Health? If I choose to do the HAVEN program instead of reporting this to DPH and DPH finds out about the arrest eventually, will I still get in trouble with the Board of Nursing for not reporting this to them? Any information at all would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the reply nursynurse. After researching more on HAVEN and reading peoples reviews and stories I am concerned this might almost be a worse way to go than just reporting to DPH. Is the only benefit to HAVEN keeping my name anonymous to the public? In terms of punishment it sounds like HAVEN has more serious consequences and more hoops to jump through than if I were just to report to DPH. Anymore insight on this?
I am not suggesting you sign onto Haven. I am suggesting you do exactly what you are doing which is research to try to get the best outcome. And yes, the point of Haven is to keep your information private, because when you work with DPH everything (I mean every little detail they uncover) will be made public for all to see.
You can get a lawyer and fight tooth and nail, but chances are you will receive a penalty maybe a reprimand, fine, license restriction or monitoring contract. It may be less or even more of a hassle then dealing with Haven, but that depends on the DPH decision.
Also, Haven can be harsh, such as an automatic 3-5yr contracts, no matter how miniscule the situation. They are a money-making business, so when they get you in just know the minimum is 3yrs (they say that's the required time to "gather enough data on you") .
I don't mean to sound harsh or scare you in any way and I do apologize if it sounds that way. I just know that the DPH will act on the public behalf by any means to ensure you are not a danger to the public as a licensed professional. And they will have an investigation period. During this time you can not practice. Either way it will be a waiting period with both entities during the investigation process.
I am contiuing to do my research, because these entities have to much power.
I wish I had someone to help me navigate those murky waters instantly. I'm grateful for this forum! I hope this helps!❤
