CSU as a freshman or Community college

Hi everyone!

I'm currently a senior in high school. I applied to some CSUs as a pre-nursing major, and get accepted. However, getting into pre-nursing doesn't mean it's guaranteed to get into nursing program. Will atending a specific CSU limit choice for nursing program to only that school? I'm afraid that I might not be able to get into the nursing program in that school because it is very impacted. I wonder whether it will be better to go to a community college, do all the prerequisites there, and apply to lots of different programs. Do universities prefer their students to transfer students?

I graduated from a CSU with a non-nursing degree and decided to pursue nursing after. I took all my prereqs at a community college and it had saved me a lot of money. The education you get at a CC is on par with a university, many of my professors also taught at the nearby CSU. I say go the CC route for prereqs. I haven't heard of any CSU nursing programs who prefer students that already go there. They tend to just choose the very best candidates regardless of where they're from. Good luck!

I went to a CC first and transferred to a CSU once I got into the program. Like the previous poster said, it saved me a ton of money & I received a great education. I always tell people to go this route. Good luck!

I recommend going to community college first if you don't get into a direct program as a freshman. Like the post above said you do save a lot more money doing your pre-requisites that way. I worried about the impaction to, but as long as you get all A's and do well on the TEAS, you should be okay. That's the route I took and I'm going to transfer to a nursing program in Fall 2017!

Start at a community college and save the money. Only good reason to start at the four year school would be if you got a full ride scholarship.
