Good day allnurses,

I recently found out through my CSUDH account that I got admitted to their ADN-BSN program for Fall 2016. I have yet to receive an official acceptance letter via snail mail. I know I don't start until then but I kind of want to prepare myself. Hopefully somebody can shed some light on my questions:

I see on their program syllabus that BSN 381 Health AssessmentSkills Lab is done on campus or at another location for one weekend only. What about the performance courses (411L,421L, & 451L)? Are they similar to having a clinical rotation? If yes, what is/was the required number of clinical hours for each? Also, to those who were out of state when they were doing the program, how did requesting a clinical affiliation agreement go for you? I am currently stationed in Hawaii for military assignment and would like to hear your input. I spoke with one of the nursing representatives regarding this matter and was told that with ample time available, there should not be any issue with finding a clinical site.

Hello mountdan! Have you heard anything back yet? I believe I got accepted into the program too through the CSUDH account, but still no acceptance letter. I called the school or nursing and they said to check up on the toromail for any updates, but still to this day nothing!

U have to find ur own preceptor and place from a list!

Don't worry too much about the letter. If u got in it will appear on ur acct. everyone gets in !

Is it hard to find your own preceptor? Also how many hours does the leadership and public health clinicals require?

It is very easy to find a preceptor. The program itself is very good. The negative thing about Csdh is that the staff (not teachers) are unorganized, rude and know nothing. when u call financial aid or the admissions off they don't answer. they say the phones do not work and they are aware (how is this possible?) I had to drive 2 hours just to go in person to get my questions answered, and did I mention they are rude?!

Thanks l.a.m.b. for the info. Completely agree with you so far about he rude staff. How far are you in the program or are you already finish? How many units or classes did you take per semester?

I have 2 classes left! I took no more than 2 classes at a time which is equal to 6 units. I was not in a hurry and I refuse to punish myself by over stressing , haha!

Congrats l.a.m.b.! almost done. Were the majority of the classes writing essays and participating in group chats? Any exams you have to go in to do?

There are tests for some, not all classes. It's definitely not like it was in nursing school. The emphasis is on research and being a good writer. You must also participate in group posts.

L.A.M.B. - sorry to hear about your experience with admissions and financial aid. The School of Nursing (SON) and Student Services (based in the College of Health, Human Services, and Nursing) are the best resources for students. The university is rather bureaucratic and so the college/department can help with the navigation. Information about clinical preceptorships is fully accessible online (SON website>forms and clinical handbooks link). Students out-of-state will have some additional challenges because an affiliation agreement (contract) is needed with the agency where the preceptorship will occur. Early planning and communication wit the SON is the key. It's best to come to campus to attend the orientation session to learn about important policies and processes.
