Csso:central staffing nurse for ob/women's

Specialties Ob/Gyn

I have done ldrp for 12 years and lived it! My only job as an RN and I never wanted to do anything else. I recently took a position with the staffing office for all the women's services in the area of the hospital system. I left a wonderful day job for this because the challenge and the money and I think I regret it. For only one reason: one of the units is pretty much med surg for any type of patient that has a lady parts. I have to work there in the morning and I am so sick over it. I'm not used to taking care if 75 year old parapalegic with a bowel obstruction, this is not my field. Other nurses who took this position before me have refused to work there. I feel like I'm not experienced enough in this type of nursing nor do I have the interest in learning this. I've spend years learning ob and it's been my life in nursing. I can transfer back to my old unit but I would have to work nights again and my family says no way. Please any advice or encouragement would be appreciated. At this point I'm calling out in the morning and possibly retiring from nursing lol

Are there other hospitals nearby with decent L&D units? Or a proper OB float pool (L&D, PP, Nursery, Antepartum, etc--no med/surg patients) With 12 years experience you might get a better offer in terms of pay by switching hospitals instead of transferring within the one you currently work, and it will be a fresh new experience, but stilling doing the stuff you love and not dealing with the stuff you are not interested in. Good luck, I hope you figure something out! I switched to L&D from med/surg and I would never want to go back, I understand how you feel!
