CSN Full vs. Part time schedule

Published

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could give me an example of the their schedule? I am applying for Fall 2011 and I'm just not sure which would be better for me. For full time, how many classes are there a week, what time are the labs, clinicals, etc? I would really appreciate it if someone could help me! Thanks :nurse:

For full-time the first semester is NURS 101 and NURS 125B. NURS 101 has 1 lecture, 1 lab, and 1 clinical per week. NURS125B (Pharmacology) is just 1 lecture per week. I believe the last 3 semesters have 2 classes with a lecture, lab, and clinical portion each. I don't know how part-time works but you can probably find more information on the CSN web site.

Specializes in oncology, med/surg, ortho.

Part time is the same as the full time schedule for the first semester exactly as cupcake described. Then the following semesters is 1 lecture, 1 clinical, 1 lab per week. You take mental health and med-surg II in the summer time. Full timers finish in 2 years...part timers finish in 2 1/2 years. I noticed they are starting to use more distance Ed classes for lecture now. I took OB online and now I'm taking Peds online which saves me a lot of gas and time. When you get into OB you only have lab for one day and in Peds you only have lab i think 2 days. I think time wise the hardest is the first semester and med surg. I don't know how it worked for cupcake but we had to go to the hospital the night before clinical and get our patient info which was KILLER :eek: especially since we all worked full time.

For students already in the program - do you get to pick your schedule or is it selected for you? I've heard both so I'm confused. If anyone can give me an example of their class schedule like days and times for lecture, lab, and clinical I'd appreciate it. I'm planning on applying for the Fall 2012 program. I'm a stay at home mom of 4 small children (5 and under) and I'm wondering if it's at all possible to get into classes during the evening/weekend when my husband can be with the kids or if I will need to make other arrangements. A nicu RN/csn 09 grad said that's what she did but I've heard it's not possible from another grad and getting a straight answer from a counselor is like pulling teeth! Thanks in advance for your help! :)

You do get to pick your schedule, but you don't. When you go to orientation there is a wall full of pre-selected schedules, probably close to 40 of them. You randomly draw numbers and go in numerical order to select from th pre-selected schedules. It's kind of lame, but they do it to make sure that nobody double-books themselves first semester. Those who don't like it can thank all those who booked themselves for lecture and clinical at the same time many years ago. I'm just getting ready to enter first semester, but from what I've been told this is the only semester that schedule selection is like this. All other semesters are first come first serve and you choose whichever lecture, lab, and clinical you like.

As far as evening classes, for first semester they are rare. I don't know about other semesters though. Pharm you might be able to get an evening class, but I don't think there were any evening 101 classes this semester. Even if you get an evening lecture, clinical either runs from 645-1245 or 1245-645, so you're going to have to make arrangements anyways. From what you've said it sounds like it might be most convenient for you to register for online classes, which you can easily work around your schedule. You have to be independent and disciplined, but can at least you won't have to drive to school every day. Although you'll still have to drive to clinical and lab.

Hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions, let me know
