Working in the CVOR and working in CVICU are completely two different things. It really won't give them job satisfaction, in fact they will probably feel more nervous. Sure, as an extra circulator it would be great to have an extra pair of hands, but to be there on your own with only minimal training????
Most facilities require that the nurse be in the OR for at least one year, and now they have cut it down to six months before getting training to work in the CVOR.....all you need is one error due to lack of training, and ...........
I have worked both CVICU and CVOR with training as an OR nurse in all services, so I am giving this information from experience.
Just my thoughts on the topic............

We're starting to cross-train a couple of CVICU nurses into the role of the circulator in the CVORs for increased staffing flexibility and nursing satisfaction/retention. Has anyone ventured down this path? Currently, all of our CVICU and Progressive Care nurses are 100% cross-trained.
