Which diet is best for a patient with crohns and also ulcerative colitis? Ie low or high fiber, protein, fat etc. Knowing both would be great. Thanks!

My husband has one of these, we're trying to find out which one, atm.

From the research I've done, it really depends on the particular person. A lot of people have issues with dairy, and wheat. Also, some tolerate white bread better than any others.

During a flare it can be best to stick with a liquid diet and graduate to bland foods. We eat a lot of chicken and rice around here.

For my hubby, fat is harder to digest, fiber is the enemy and protein doesn't seem to effect him. Malnourishment is always a concern, also.

I would ask the patient's gastroenterilogist and or the hospital's dietitian?

Are you asking for yourself?

I know this is years later but as of now no diets have been shown to improve inflammation. The CCFA is going to do some studies now.

For or a patient who has active inflammation in the colon ans is experiencing bleeding or many bowel movements than a low residue and fiber diet can help minimize that.

Many people find improvement in symptoms with FODMAPs diet

or SCD diet
