How did you become a crna and how was the crna program. If you could do it again would you choose the NP route

Specializes in CRNA.

How did you become a CRNA?

Earned a BSN, worked in several ICUs for 5 years, attended and graduated a nurse anesthesia program earning a MS. Passed the national certification exam to earn the right to sign CRNA after by name.

How was CRNA school?

Very intense, I had test anxiety for the first time in my life. Wondered a few times during the first 2 semesters if I would make it. Clinical consumed my life and it was difficult from going from the position of expert ICU nurse to someone who didn't know much about anything. One of my best nursing friends shocked me by asking if I like it. I was shocked becaused I loved anesthesia, but she told me that I seemed so stressed and she had never seen me like that.

Would I become a NP?

No

loveanesthesia Can you tell me if your science classes were more then five yrs old? It seems they must have been if you worked ICU for 5 years prior to attending the Grad program. Did they make an exception? Or was it not a requirement? Or am I completely wrong? lol

Yes, it had been longer than 5 years since I took the science courses. It was only required that the physiology be taken within 10 years of beginning the program, which it was. I don't think too many programs have time limits of 5 years for all the science courses.
