CRNA Practice in SE Florida

Published

I am currently an SRNA in the upper midwest. I will graduate in November 2016. I am anxiously preparing my resume and have begun looking at possible job locations. I am really interested in south east florida ie. Miami, West Palm Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale. I am hoping there are a few CRNAs and/or SRNAs who can touch on anesthesia practices down there. I have been to SE Florida many times and absolutely love it. Please let me know what it's like for a CRNA to practice there.

I can't tell you what the practice environment is like. But what I can tell you and someone can either confirm or deny it - that the market in FL is flooded. There are something like at least 10 CRNA schools in the entire state and its somewhat overwhelmed with new grads. Also the pay is considerably less than the upper midwest. I trained out there and I moved back to NY and there is more money offered there than in NY, at least 10 K more.

A $10k difference is nothing, considering there is no state income tax in Florida and the cost of living, for the most part, is substantially less than NY. That being said - the main complaint for years has been that the Florida market is more than flooded with anesthetists. There are jobs to be had, but high supply compared to demand is what is keeping compensation down.

I'm also interesting! Would love to know what you find out! :)

Market no longer flooded. Even with so many CRNA programs, there are TONS, I mean TONS of jobs in Florida. Take that for what it's worth.

Also, pay has been going up over the last couple years. New grads starting at $135k-$140k base + $10k sign on bonuses
